Having children brings many
changes, not just the obvious, adapting to life with a new baby and being
responsible for said new baby, without so much as an instruction booklet or
information sheet! For me one of the
most challenging things about pregnancy is the physical changes my body
undergoes and the fact that my brain never quite seems to catch up. This has led to embarrassing changing room
incidents where I’ve had to call attendants in to help free me from clothes
that were barely going to go over my head, let alone my expanding tummy. In my head, I was the same as I’ve always
been, but in my body, was a growing person.
Dressing for that, particularly for an occasion can be challenging. Post baby dressing can pose even more of a
difficulty, as you try to accommodate breastfeeding friendly clothes, with soft
tummy friendly clothes and often the need for soft bum friendly clothes too!
The constant for me, since I
discovered its magic as a teenager, has been make-up. It’s my instant go to, to perk myself up. Even
when my body was undergoing huge changes, my make-up stayed loyal to me. Even when I was in labour, my make-up
provided me with a sense of calm, a sense of feeling like myself. After my babies were born, that first shower
and putting on my face made me feel like I could take on parenting and
win. I don’t wear much, but my eyeliner
and mascara have pride of place in my morning routine.
My fabulous friend, fellow
Mammy and Make-up artist Pamela Hayden recently transformed me into a vision of
loveliness for a family wedding. As she stuck my eyelashes on, we were chatting
about how life with small people is hectic. Some days there's no time for
lunch, let alone make-up. We both agreed that for us, make-up is for our faces,
but also for our mental health! It’s the thing that still defines us as us,
rather than Mammy.
After our chat, we decided
to team up to host a Make-Up Masterclass especially tailored for those of us
who are short on time. Pam's philosophy is that make-up should enhance our
natural beauty. On Friday evening June 16th
you'll be greeted with a glass of
bubbly and a chocolate treat before being guided through Day & Night Make
Up Demo's.
Look 1 will be a full demo of a typical day time
look, the do’s and don’ts of day time
make-up, how to make it last and identifying the essentials, that can be applied
in 5 minutes or less
Look 2 is a full make-up
demo of a night time look including lash application.
The premise is “ to enhance not plaster” and
how to take shortcuts when time is limited and you
have a little person “helper”
Throughout the class Pamela will cover:
·
Product recommendations
·
Affordable dupes
·
What you actually need in your make-up bag
·
Make-up brushes – what’s essential
·
Sample make-up bag that costs less than €100
·
Skin types, oily, combination and dry and
make-up
You’ll also receive a full list of notes and
products used. So, if you need a helping
hand with feeling good about you, gather some of your Mammy friends and make a
night of it. Get in touch with us at The
Baby Room for more information.
