“Maybe the fear is that we are less than we think we are, when the actuality of it is that we are much much more.” ― Jon Kabat-Zinn,
Mindfulness has its roots in Buddhism, where it has been used for thousands of years to help improve people’s experience of living. It helps lower anxiety and stress, interrupts harmful ruminating and can help to avoid repeating upsetting and distressing thoughts, images and scenarios. It found its way into modern Western society largely thanks to the work of Dr. Jon Kabat Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he devised the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) programme for dealing with chronic pain. MBSR is now offered in medical centres and hospitals around the world.
Our Mindfulness for Mums workshops combine gentle stretches, with mindful breathing techniques, a relaxing body scan, mediation, visualisation and positive affirmation work so that mums leave with some effective new tools to help reduce and combat stress.
Guided breathing exercises, relaxing body scans, positive visualisations and affirmations, will help to decrease stress & anxiety and increase confidence. Classes combine music, warmth, candles and positivity to help you connect with your breathing and your baby and take you on a transformative journey in your pregnancy.
Very often we tell our children to “calm down” or to “relax” but do we show them how? Our Mindful Kids Programme at The Baby Room introduces children to mindfulness in a fun way, fostering the development of those calming and relaxation skills.
